Fire at South Bend plant evacuates employees early Sunday

Employees at a South Bend factory had to evacuate after one of their own accidentally started a fire.

It happened at around 1 a.m. Sunday at the Suzuki Garphyttan plant on Nimitz Parkway in South Bend.

A worker told WSBT that the fire started as he was cutting tubed and “went up into the stacks.”

No one was hurt and everyone was evacuated safely.
