Cass County deputies and first responders had their hands full with not one but two crashes within a mile of one another Saturday night and Sunday morning.
At around 9 p.m., officers responded to a rollover crash on M-60 near Reum Street in Howard Township, which is just northeast of the US 12/M-60 intersection.
Two men from Niles were taken to Memorial Hospital in South Bend for injuries after their vehicle went through a culvert, then rolled multiple times. Officers believe alcohol was a factor.
Alcohol is also believed to be a factor in a two-vehicle crash just south of there about four hours later.
It happened about 1 a.m. Sunday on U.S. 12 between Frantz Dr. and the M-60 intersection when one vehicle being driven by an Elkhart rear-ended another vehicle containing three Niles residents.
All four were taken to Memorial Hospital in South Bend.
No word of official charges in either crash.
