A 57-year-old Elkhart woman was found dead and police say she was the victim of a homicide.

The woman, Sherry Houston, was found in a home in the 1200 block of Prairie Street.

Officers with the Elkhart Police Department were called to the home for a welfare check on Monday, March 26.

Members of the Elkhart County Homicide Unit and a Deputy Coroner responded to the scene and started a death investigation.

An autopsy was conducted on Tuesday, the results of which indicated her death was due to homicide.

The case remains under investigation by the Elkhart County Homicide Unit.
