One person was injured in a shooting that’s believed to have happened in the parking lot near Sears at University Park Mall.

Police were called to the mall just before 8:30 p.m. on Monday, March 26, and were seen combing the area of the parking lot between Sears and Macy’s.

The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment and was reported to have been alert and talking.

There is no word, yet, on the circumstances that led to the gunfire. Tuesday morning, however, Mishawaka Police Department Division Chief Jason Stefaniak told 95.3 MNC that a person of interest was in custody, and being interviewed.

It was later reported an arrest had been made. The suspect, Joshua Villanueva-Rose, 20, of South Bend was arrested on a preliminary robbery charge and in connection with the shooting.
