Five guns recovered in three South Bend traffic stops

South Bend police pulled over three vehicles and recovered five guns from people that shouldn’t have had them Sunday.

The first happened just after midnight early Sunday morning. It happened near the intersection of Roger and Huey, when police chased a suspect vehicle. That vehicle crashed into an empty vehicle and the suspects allegedly took off on foot and got away. Two stolen handguns were recovered.

Not even a half hour later, a vehicle was pulled over on Elmer Street, and a handgun was found hidden in the vehicle. The driver was arrested on an unrelated warrant.

Then, an hour after the first chase, a second chase took place that went from the Lasalle/Lafayette area and ended in the Lincolnway West/Adams area at about 1:10 a.m. One handgun was found in the car, along with drugs, paraphernalia, and ammunition. Polie say they recovered another that had been thrown out of the car during the pursuit.
