An expansion of Douglas Road near the campus of Notre Dame might result in the demolition of at least four homes.
A public hearing was held Tuesday night to discuss a proposal that would make the drive from the Toll Road near Notre Dame to Mishawaka a lot easier.
The plan would eliminate the daily traffic light bottleneck by expanding Douglas from two lanes to four between Ivy Road and State Road 23. It’s been discussed since 2015 and would create a continuous four lane roadway essentially from 933 to Mishawaka.
But WNDU reports that continuous traffic flow would involve tearing down at least four houses, and possibly more.
