A 3-year-old child was said to be “o.k.” after police found the toddler inside a vehicle they say was carjacked. It happened around 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday, April 17, in the 3400 block of W. Western Avenue in South Bend.
The carjacking happened when a woman who was driving the car went into a gas station, but left the keys in the vehicle.
The suspect, who was described as a white male wearing an orange hoodie and khaki pants, got into the vehicle and drove off.
Police caught up with the suspect, vehicle and the child, in the area of Mayflower and Sample Street, just before 6 p.m.
The suspect has been identified as James Brown, 28. Brown was arrested on preliminary charges of criminal confinement and theft, according to the St. Joseph County Jail.
