An 18-year-old woman is recovering after being shot in South Bend.

It happened around noon, Wednesday, near Miami and Donald Streets in South Bend.

South Bend Police spokesman Ken Garcia says people living nearby have been very helpful in the investigation, so far.

“There was a call into 911 to let us know there were shots fired in this area,” Garcia said. “So we want to thank the community for calling as well as for the involvement we’re receiving now. People are talking to officers so we can really nail down what happened this afternoon.”

People living nearby told police they saw several people on the front porch of a home arguing when as many as 10 shots rang out.

The young woman who was shot suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
