Woman critically injured after train hits vehicle near Nappanee

Police are investigating a crash involving a train and a vehicle near Nappanee.

It happened around 9 a.m. Monday on County Road 9 south of U.S. 6.

Investigators say the 19-year-old woman behind the wheel of the vehicle drove around the stop arm, then stopped on the tracks and was struck by the CSX train.

She was airlifted to Memorial Hospital with with severe head trauma and internal injuries.
