South Bend officials discuss Ironwood/Corby/Rockne improvement with neighbors

A plan is being solidified to make changes at troublesome South Bend intersection.

The intersection of Ironwood, Corby and Rockne was being considered for a roundabout, but city leaders have shot that down.

Wednesday’s meeting brought some fresh ideas for dealing with the high traffic volume, the unclear pavement markings, and the aging traffic signals.

A number of upgrades are being reviewed, including new drainage for the area around the five-way intersection, which frequently floods during heavy rain events. Left turn lanes, new curbs, and making Ironwood two lanes were also discussed.
