The woman who left the scene of a crash that wasn’t her fault, but resulted in the death of a 6 year-old child in South Bend, has been handed her sentence.

Reka Phillips has been given a sentence of four years in prison and two years of probation for leaving the scene of that crash last August, at the intersection of O’Brien and Vassar on South Bend’s northwest side.

The six year-old girl who was killed in the crash was in a vehicle with her grandmother. Police said Phillips was not at fault in the crash, but she was charged for not staying at the scene.

Phillips had an outstanding warrant for a drug conviction at the time.
