A Silver Lake woman was arrested after allegedly tossing contraband to an inmate in a Kosciusko County courtroom in hopes of it being forwarded to her son who is an inmate in the jail.
45-year-old Linda Bryant is being charged with trafficking with an inmate, dealing in and possession of a controlled substance, and possession of marijuana.
On Tuesday, Kosciusko County court security officer John Hart escorted inmate Nicholas Silva to Superior Court III for a hearing. Hart then saw on a surveillance video a female courtroom visitor, later identified as Bryant, throw an object to Silva while he was sitting in the jury box.
Hart went to the jury box where Silva was sitting and retrieved a plastic bag wrapped in black electrical tape containing a Samsung cell phone, earbuds, a phone charger, rolling papers, 30 grams of marijuana and 10 pills of alprazolam, a Schedule IV controlled substance.
A Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Deputy spoke with Bryant, who admitted she brought the cell phone, pills and marijuana into the jail for her son, Donald Bryant Jr., court paperwork said.
Copies of a phone call made from the jail by Donald Bryant Jr. from Monday show him instructing her to toss the items to a “young Mexican kid” (Silva) while he is sitting in the jury box.
Paperwork says he told his mother when to be there and how to package the items.
