NOBLESVILLE, Ind. (AP) — A judge has delayed the fact-finding hearing of a 13-year-old boy accused of shooting another student and a teacher at a suburban Indianapolis school.

The Indianapolis Star reports that the boy’s attorney asked Hamilton Circuit Court Judge Paul Felix to delay the hearing, which is similar to a trial. It had been scheduled to begin Monday and last four days. It hasn’t been rescheduled yet.

The 11 charges the boy faces include two counts of attempted murder for the May 25 attack at Noblesville West Middle School. He’s accused of shooting teacher Jason Seaman and 13-year-old Ella Whistler. Authorities have said Seaman tackled the boy to stop the shooting.

The Associated Press isn’t using the boy’s name because he’s charged as a juvenile.

CARBONDALE, Ill. (AP) — An Indiana teacher who stopped a school shooting will be honored as grand marshal at a homecoming event at Southern Illinois University.

Jason Seaman attended the Carbondale school and played football from 2007 to 2010. The university’s homecoming is set for Oct. 20 when the Salukis play Indiana State.

Seaman is a teacher at Noblesville West Middle School, near Indianapolis. He was shot three times on May 25 while stopping a student who fired a gun in his classroom. Another student was seriously injured.

Good guys stopping bad guys…it’s what it’s all about. Congrats to the teacher for facing down evil.

To bad they were forced to be disarmed for the confrontation. Almost like they didn’t live in a free country with the right to self defense.

Assault is an activity not a device.
