South Bend teen charged with murder after Fourth of July shooting

Murder charges have been filed after a fatal shooting on the Fourth of July.

The shooting happened around 2 a.m. in the 55000 block of South Hollywood Boulevard near Ardmore Trail during a bonfire and party.

17 year-old Aubrey Edwards was shot in the head while inside a car and was declared dead at the scene. 17-year-old Caleb Hayes was arrested at the scene.

One of the juvenile witnesses told told officers that Hayes threatened to kill the victim, then went outside. A gunshot was heard, then Hayes returned to the home and admitted to the juvenile he shot Edwards in the temple area.

He’s being held without bond until he can be arraigned.
