A Michigan City teacher is a finalist for a big honor

A local teacher has been named one of the three state finalists for a big honor.

The Indiana Department of Education has released the named of the finalists for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Math and Science.

Michael Maesch, a teacher at Knapp Elementary School in Michigan City, is one of the three finalists moving on to the national level in the math category. He’ll be one of the teachers honored at a recognition luncheon later this year.
