A man in Marshall County has lost an appeal to get his sentence reduced.

Maeson Coffin pleaded guilty to burglary, auto theft, and felony theft charges associated with the murder case of his landlord.

Richard Costello, 79, was killed in 2016 and Gauvin Monaghan pleaded guilty to the murder.

Coffin admitted to stealing Costello’s car and some other belongings.

He received a sentence of 12 years for burglary, 18 months for auto theft and 18 months for theft, all to be served consecutively.

The Indiana Court of Appeals ruled that the trial court acted appropriately in sentencing him to 15 years in prison.

The two men were found when Costello’s stolen cell phone was traced to New York.
