Indiana gender pay gap third worst in U.S.

When it comes to the topic of equal pay in Indiana, Hoosier employers have some catching up to do.

That’s according to a new national study by Alpha Rae Personnel on the gender pay gap, based on census data. It shows Indiana is the third-worst in the country; Hoosier women earn 73 cents for every dollar a man earns, coming in behind Louisiana and Utah.

Women in Porter County fare the worst in Indiana, making only 59 percent of what a man earns. Boone and Hamilton counties, north of Indianapolis, are second and third worse, at 61.3 percent and 64.5 percent respectively, according to the Fort Wayne Journal Gazette.

The national rate is around 81 cents to the dollar, while women in Florida earn an average of 87 cents per dollar.
