Tuesday is Voter Registration Day in Michigan and Indiana

Tuesday, Sep. 25,  is National Voter Registration Day in Michigan and Indiana.

Secretary of State Ruth Johnson says its the state’s way of recognizing National Voter Registration Month, and encouraging more eligible Michiganders to participate in the political process.

Johnson said it’s also a good time for people to make sure that if they are already registered, that they have their information updated so they don’t run into problems at the polls in November.

Residents can register to vote at a Secretary of State office, their local city, township or county clerk’s office, military recruitment centers, and other official centers.

Residents can learn more at www.michigan.gov/vote.

In South Bend, Mayor Pete Buttigieg and the principals of South Bend-area high schools this month are encouraging eligible high school seniors to vote.

Buttigieg and the schools have engaged in the Cap, Gown, Vote! initiative through the organization Let America Vote.

Schools are devoting resources to ensure that students who turn 18 by November 6 are able to register to vote.

The registration deadline for the November general election is October 9.
