Kouts man found guilty of defrauding insurance companies

A Kouts man has been found guilty after federal prosecutors say he devised a scheme to defraud insurance companies.

A grand jury charged Michael Thomas, 41, in a four count indictment alleging he and others took out insurance policies on several homes that he owned near North Judson, shortly before each residence burnt due to arson.

The fires occurred between 2004 and 2013.

He and others received over $600,000 from the insurance companies.

Thomas will be sentenced in mid-January 2019.
