Nearly 400 calls to Michigan’s OK 2 SAY school safety tip-line last month

The September numbers are in for Michigan’s OK 2 SAY program.

The state’s Attorney General, Bill Scheutte, says the tip line for Michigan school students received almost 400 tips in September.

The total of 397 was 30 percent higher than last September.

A quarter of the tips were about suicide, with bullying, drugs, anxiety and self-harm among the other top categories.

Schuette says Michigan’s school safety initiative works, and has become the number one reporting tool in Michigan for students.

It is clear that students are using it to report when they feel unsafe, or when they are feeling alone and vulnerable.
