A man wanted by authorities in the State of Minnesota who was believed to be living in Niles has been arrested.

Police believe Bogdan Stanislavovich Churkin was working construction jobs in Niles, South Bend, Mishawaka and Goshen.

After distributing his name and picture on Tuesday, police received a tip and Churkin was arrested in Goshen.

The following information was released by the Twin Cities Apprehension Team:

Bogdan Stanislavovich Churkin is in custody following a three state, three day manhunt.

Churkin was taken into custody by the Minneapolis-based Twin Cities Apprehension Team on Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at approximately 6:00 PM.

Our agency’s anonymous tip line received dozens of phone calls, and investigators with TCAT followed up on every lead received from tipsters that called as a result of the public petition for assistance locating the wanted Minnesota fugitive from justice.

At approximately 5 p.m., lead investigator Stew Peters took a tip that was deemed to be credible, and our agency’s arrest team assembled on the 69000 block of Ironwood Drive, in Goshen, where Churkin was swiftly apprehended and taken into custody without incident.

Churkin had 3 outstanding warrants in Minnesota at the time of his apprehension, and had unlawfully fled the state to avoid prosecution on charges of 2nd Degree DWI with aggravating factors (Injury, accident, or death), as well as two additional DWI warrants with test refusal and aggravating factors.

Investigative efforts included a two-week investigation in Minnesota, that ultimately led to the Michiana area, and ended with the safe apprehension of the wanted man.

Churkin is currently being transported to the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office Adult Detention Center, in Minnesota, where he will be held pending appearances before District Court.
“The safety of our team, the public, and the fugitive were at the top of mind during the apprehension, and we are extremely satisfied with the way it went”, Stew Peters, TCAT, “we are very grateful for all of the tips that we received, and appreciate the help from the citizens in the Michiana area that were instrumental in leading us to
Churkin.
