Tie vote in Niles council race comes down to drawing

The Niles 2nd Ward Council race came down to pulling a piece of paper out of a hat for the two men who ended the election with 377 votes each.

Travis Timm pulled out the piece of paper with the word “Elected” on it and was declared the winner over incumbent Robert Durm.

Durm, who has sat on the Council for 23 years, immediately filed for a recount, an option that was given to whichever of them who pulled out the “Not Elected” paper.

Niles Mayor Nick Shelton says the recount will happen on Tuesday, Nov. 20.
