South Bend school teachers getting pay increase

The South Bend Community School Corporation has reached an agreement with their teachers on a pay increase.

Effective immediately, teachers in the corporation will see their base salary rise to $38,250 per year. That’s an increase of $2,500.

The increase is retroactive to August 1, so back pay will be issued in December.

Teachers with five or more years of experience will have a starting salary of $40,000.

That’s still a few hundred dollars shy of the salary for teachers in the Penn-Harris-Madison schools, but Superintendent Dr. Kenneth Spells says South bend will be looking to compete soon.
