Indiana State Police have denied Elkhart Mayor Tim Neese’s request to conduct an investigation into the beating of an in-custody suspect by some Elkhart police officers.

A state police spokesman says there is no point to an investigation since criminal charges have already been filed.

State Police spokesman Capt. David Bursten said Monday the agency would not participate in the criminal case against officers Cory Newland and Joshua Titus, or in the broader review of Elkhart police requested by Mayor Tim Neese.

Bursten suggested that Neese instead approach the U.S. Department of Justice to investigate Elkhart’s police.

Both officers face one misdemeanor battery count for allegedly tackling and repeatedly punching Mario Guerrero Ledesma in the face for spitting toward Newland.

Reporting by the South Bend Tribune and ProPublica uncovered Ledesma’s beating and also revealed that nearly all of the department’s police supervisors have been disciplined or suspended at some point in their careers.

If he still has a single tooth no excessive force was used. Only good judgement by the police. November 21, 2018 at 8:32 am

Got what he deserved!
Pretty soon we will be committing a crime for just correcting our children in this PC society. I wonder why there were few (or none) mass school shootings when I was a kid? Maybe because we had parents, corporal punishment and feared the police enough to respect them. I hope the judge that hears this case has common sense and throws it out of court while penalizing the plaintiff and his attorney for just being stupid.

We also had insane asylums. If people self mutilated, identified as ‘Napoleon’ or something else they are not they were locked up until their attitude adjusted. Today it’s just a lifestyle choice and you’re expected to respect it…even if they are bat guano crazy. Just give them a pill and wait for them to show crazy by shooting up the neighborhood.
