Latest information for those affected by power outages

UPDATE: As of 9 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, crews from AEP Ohio are joining I&M employees and contractors this morning to restore all remaining customers who lost service in Monday’s winter storm.

The utility reports that about 300 line workers and other field personnel are restoring the remaining 3,000 customers in southwest Michigan who remain without service. Michigan customers will continue to be restored throughout the day, with all customers expected to be restored by 9 p.m. The estimated time of restoration in the Three Rivers area is 4 p.m.

Fewer than 75 customers are without service in Indiana, and the last Hoosier customers are expected to be restored before 4 p.m.

I&M urges the public to exercise caution as crews continue to restore power. Please watch for crews working along roadsides, stay away from any downed wires and beware of tree limbs or branches that may still fall as a result of the heavy snow and wind.

ORIGINAL STORY: I&M has restored more than half of the nearly 20,000 customers who lost power as a result of Monday’s winter storm.

The estimated time of restoration for remaining Hoosier customers is 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 27. The estimated time of restoration for Michigan customers is 4 p.m., Tuesday, in the Three Rivers area and 9 p.m., Tuesday, for the remainder of the Michigan service area.

The approximate numbers of outages as of 4 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 26:

Indiana: 750
• St. Joseph County: 250
• LaPorte County: 500

Michigan: 8,900
• Berrien County: 8,400
• Cass County: 300
• Van Buren County: 125
• St. Joseph County: 25
• Kalamazoo County: 50

In addition to more than 200 I&M crews on the ground in southwest Michigan and north-central Indiana, I&M will add 100 line workers from Ohio early Tuesday to assist with restoration.

Heavy, wet snow combined with strong winds caused trees and limbs to drop onto power lines. Snow accumulated on leaves remaining on trees to contribute to limbs and branches dropping into lines.

More than 5 inches of snow were reported in portions of Berrien County. Wind gusts of 40 mph were recorded in Benton Harbor and 43 mph in South Bend.
