Tourism group seeks solutions to Indiana shoreline erosion

PORTER, Ind. (AP) — A tourism organization is looking to join efforts that seek solutions to beach erosion along northwestern Indiana’s Lake Michigan shoreline.

The (Northwest Indiana) Times reports that Indiana Dunes Tourism’s board has given Executive Director Lorelei Weimer authority to become actively involved in efforts to find answers.

Weimer says continued erosion threatens tourism in Porter County.

The newspaper reports that about 3 million tourists visit the county each year, primarily for Lake Michigan and its beaches.

Weimer adds that she’s working with the National Parks Conservation Association on a video showing the shoreline and erosion. The video should be completed by year’s end and will be used in local and statewide efforts to garner support to find a solution.
