U.S. 20 bypass re-opened in Elkhart County after morning crashes, slide-offs

UPDATE 8:00 a.m.  –  The eastbound lanes of the U.S. 20 bypass have reopened, and the westbound lanes were expected to follow suit very shortly.

5:00 a.m.  –  Lake effect snow overnight left a light coating of snow on the roadways.

Authorities in Elkhart County closed the U.S. 20 bypass between SR 19 and CR 17 in response to several slide-offs and crashes. Travelers were advised to avoid the bypass, altogether, because of the slick conditions

Very slippery conditions were also reported on SR 19 and Hively Avenue, among many others.

Several school districts also called for 2-hour delays, due to the slick conditions.

Weatherwise, just a couple more isolated light snow showers are expected on Wednesday morning. early this morning. Clouds will break up in the afternoon, turning partly sunny but it will remain cold.

Another shot of light snow tomorrow morning but little accumulation is expected.

A quiet and sunny stretch of weather is expected from Friday through the middle of next week. However temperatures stay cold through Monday of next week.

Wednesday: Mostly cloudy with isolated AM snow, then partly sunny. High of 32.

Wednesday Night: Partly to mostly cloudy, slight chance of snow. Low of 28.

Thursday: Morning light snow, mostly cloudy and breezy. High of 33.

Friday: Partly cloudy, high of 28.
