Two people died in an apparent hit-and-run crash involving three vehicles at N. Bendix Drive and W. Lathrop Street, near South Bend International Airport, in South Bend.

The collision happened around 6:15 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 16.

The victims were identified as a woman and a juvenile male, according to 95.3 MNC’s reporting partners at ABC 57.

Three others, including a child, were seriously injured and taken to Memorial Hospital in South Bend for treatment, ABC 57 reported.

The St. Joseph County FACT team was called to the scene to investigate the circumstances that led to the crash.

Police were looking for two suspects who they believe took off on foot into the woods. A police canine was brought in to help with the search for the two suspects, but it’s believed they may have been picked up by someone driving another vehicle, ABC 57 reported. Monday morning, officials announced that the vehicle suspected of causing the crash was a 2011 Dodge Avenger.

Bendix Drive was closed for several hours during the investigation.
