3-year-old boy recovering after being struck by car in South Bend

South Bend Police officers were called to the area of Marquette and O’Brien around 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 26, on a report of a child hit by a vehicle.

When officers arrived, they found the 3-year-old conscious and breathing. The child was taken to the hospital for an injury to the upper arm.

The driver of the vehicle reports turning into an alley where children were playing in the area.

The driver told police one of the children yelled “hi” and which caused the driver to look and wave. Then, the driver heard a bang. The driver backed up and saw the toddler on a scooter in front of her car next to the shoulder.

The driver told police she didn’t see the child.
