The South Bend Police announced on Monday, Jan. 7, that they had lost one of their own.

Sgt. Donald Knabenshue died over the weekend. He’d been on medical leave and the details of his death have not been released. Knabenshue served for more than 22 years with the department as a patrol officer, detective, and K-9 handler.

He was 48.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
