An 18-year-old man is charged with child molestation after prosecutors say he had sex with a 13-year-old girl.

The victim’s mother learned of the alleged incident after finding text messages between her daughter and 18-year-old Caleb Poland, who, according to court documents, messaged the girl that he knew it was illegal to have sex with her, but said he trusted her not to press charges, according to 95.3 MNC’s reporting partners at ABC 57.

The mother told police the encounter happened in December after Poland snuck into her daughter’s bedroom, ABC 57 reported.

The victim met Poland at church two years ago, ABC 57 reported.
