Woman sentenced in death of Mishawaka 7 year-old

The woman who was accused in a crash that killed a 7 year-old received her sentence on Tuesday, Jan. 22.

Kayla Bennett was sentenced in the death of Briyson Councell, who was hit by a car while playing in his backyard in Mishawaka on June 2 of 2018.

Bennett was behind the wheel and had marijuana in her system. She admitted having smoked it the night before the tragedy.

She pleaded guilty in November and has been sentenced to 2 years in prison with 6 years of probation. She will also face a 4-year license suspension and will pay more than 8200 dollars in restitution.
