Police officer and tow truck driver injured in separate bypass crashes Sunday night

Two people were injured in two separate crashes last night on the bypass.

Conditions were slick as light snow fell and there were multiple slide-offs and collisions that caused the bypass to be temporarily shut down near the exit at Elm.

One of the people injured, a police officer, suffered a shoulder injury when a suspected drunk driver crashed into her squad car while she was blocking traffic near the exit. 59-year-old Robert Cobb of Elkhart was arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

A 37 year-old tow truck driver was also hit by another car while standing outside of his vehicle and was taken to the hospital with leg injuries. The woman driving the vehicle that hit him was uninjured.
