MONDAY UPDATE: Mason Township Police have released more information about the standoff, including drug involvement:
The Cass County Drug Enforcement Team announces that on February 17, 2019 detectives executed a search warrant in the 21000 block of Channel Parkway in Mason Township after a subject had barricaded themselves inside a residence after fleeing from Elkhart County Deputies. The 34 year old barricaded subject surrendered himself to officers on scene and a search of the residence was conducted.
Four subjects were detained inside of the residence: a 40 year old male, a 30 year old female, a 29 year old female and, an 18 year old female. Once all subjects were secure detectives continued searching. During the search detectives located over an ounce methamphetamine and methamphetamine paraphernalia in several rooms throughout the residence. Detectives also located over $4,000 in cash, a gallon sized Ziploc of marijuana and a bag containing cocaine. Two stolen vehicles were also recovered outside the residence that had been reported as stolen out of Indiana.
The 40 year old male out of Elkhart, IN was taken to the Cass County Jail and lodged on charges of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. The 30 year old female out of Elkhart, IN was taken to the Cass County Jail and lodged on charges of possession with intent to distribute marijuana and cocaine. The 18 year old female out of Goshen, IN was taken to the Cass County Jail and lodged on charges for possession of methamphetamine. The 34 year old male out of Elkhart was transported back to Elkhart by Elkhart County Deputies. Charges are being sought for him in this case as well. The arrested subjects’ names are being withheld pending their arraignment. Detectives were assisted on scene by the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office and K9 Faust.

A man was placed under arrest after surrendering during a SWAT standoff.
The incident stemmed from a police pursuit, around 2:25 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 17, which started in Elkhart County, then crossed the state line into Cass County.
Cass County Sheriff’s Office deputies, as well as deputies from Elkhart County pursued the suspect to the Edwardsburg area, where the suspect fled from the vehicle into a home in the 21000 block of Channel Parkway.
The suspect was believed to be armed.
Negotiations were held with the suspect via cellphone and after approximately 50 minutes, the suspect exited the home and gave himself up.
The investigation of the incident found that the suspect was driving a stolen vehicle during the pursuit.

Almost an hour to get rid of the drugs and I guess the old saying remains true, You Can’t Fix Stupid.
