Police: Merrillville man jailed in St. Joseph County after being found with illegal drugs on the toll road

A Merrillville man is in the St. Joseph County Jail after his arrest for several drug charges after a traffic stop on the Indiana Toll Road.

It was around 10:20 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 19, an Indiana State Police Trooper stopped a silver 2005 Saturn near the 69 mile marker for several traffic violations.

While speaking to the driver, Darrius Richmond, 27 of Merrillville, the trooper said he smelled the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. During a search of the Saturn, Drudge found 600 packages of the narcotic Suboxone.

Richmond was arrested on preliminary charges of Dealing in a level 3 controlled substance, possession of a legend drug and possession of a controlled substance.
