Charges have officially been filed against Elkhart Sheriff’s Department Captain James Bradberry.
Bradberry has been on administrative leave since the end of January. His resignation was accepted Saturday, March 2 and was charged on Tuesday, March 5, with three counts of false informing.
The charges come amid accusations that process servers were clocking hours that they didn’t actually work, and three process servers are facing felony charges after a grand jury investigation.
At question is whether or not Bradberry lied about telling them to misrepresent their hours worked.
A court hearing on the case is scheduled for March 29.
The following statement on the matter was sent to 95.3 MNC from Elkhart County Sheriff Jeff Siegel:
In January, 2019, I became aware of information related to three Process Servers who were
terminated after being found to have claimed hours that they did not work, over an extended period of time. I notified the Elkhart County Prosecutor’s Office of the information and an investigation was done by their Office. Captain Jim Bradberry was placed on administrative leave while the information was being investigated. The investigation into the information has led to criminal charges filed by the Elkhart County Prosecutor’s Office.
On March 2nd I accepted Captain’s Bradberry’s resignation effective immediately from the
Sheriff’s Office. All inquiries into the criminal charges should be directed to the Elkhart County Prosecutor’s Office. I will have no further comment on this due to the ongoing criminal proceedings.
Jeff A. Siegel, Sheriff
Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office
