Federal money given to City of South Bend to improve sidewalks

The City of South Bend has stepped into some funding to improve its sidewalks.

The grant is part of the national Safe Routes To School program.

It’s the fourth time this year the city has applied for and benefitted from this grant.

It will support a project with Rieth-Riely Construction to rebuild about 2-and-a-half miles of sidewalk and curb ramps near LaSalle Intermediate Academy and Marquette Primary Montessori Academy.

Six other local schools have benefitted from the grants in the past.
