City officials in South Bend say a homeless encampment on Tutt Street is in violation of a “no trespassing” order.

People living in the encampment were notified that they would have to vacate the area by 8 a.m. Monday morning.

ABC 57 reports that the lot in question was bought six weeks ago, and the new owner found tents already located on the property. It’s located next to the former cutting tools building on Tutt Street, which has the same owner. He says he’s worried about the lot becoming another tent city, similar to the one that was cleared out under the Main Street Bridge in 2017.

Because the property is zoned for industrial, the owner could face fines of 1000 dollars a day if people are living there.
