A 35-year-old Dowagiac woman was arrested after police say she tried to run over her ex-boyfriend with her pickup truck.

Police in Dowagiac were called just after 12 p.m. on Sunday, April 21, to the area of Main Street and Pennsylvania Ave. for a traffic crash involving a pickup and a light pole.

Officers arrived and made contact with the victim who said his ex-girlfriend attempted to hit him with her vehicle and hit the light pole instead.  The victim, a 39 year old Dowagiac man, advised that he and his ex-girlfriend broke up on Saturday.

The victim said he was walking on the sidewalk to the grocery store and that his ex-girlfriend saw him and drove up over the curb and onto the sidewalk in an attempt to hit him.  The victim said he saw the vehicle coming at him and stepped behind a light pole dodge it.

The victim was not injured.

Officers made contact with the suspect driver and placed her under arrest on preliminary charges of assault with a dangerous weapon.  The suspect complained of wrist pain and was taken to the hospital for treatment. After that, she was taken to the Cass County Jail.
