Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office investigating scam calls using Sheriff’s Office info

The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office is receiving reports that suspects are using the names of officers listed on thier webpage to solicit funds over the phone.

Citizens are being told that they need to pay their warrants using pre-paid credit cards by giving the card information over the phone, rather than using them in person.

The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office is reminding citizens they do not solicit funds by telephone. THey say anybody who receives any calls of this nature should not provide any information to the caller.

The phone number being used by the suspects attempting to commit fraud is 574-227-2136. The message advises that this is the Elkhart County Warrants and Citations Division.

That number is not affiliated with the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office.
