One person killed, three critically hurt in head-on crash on M239

One person was killed and three others were listed in critical condition after a crash on M-239 in New Buffalo Township.

The collision happened around 3:50 p.m. on Saturday, May 11, on M-239 just south of Wilson Road.

Investigators say a Honda CRV driven by a 21-year-old LaPorte woman crossed the center line and struck two vehicles.  The first vehicle that was struck had minor damage and there were no injuries.  The second vehicle, a Toyota Sequoia driven by a 40-year-old Elkhart man was struck head on.

Both drivers were treated for injuries and were last reported to be in stable condition.

There were four passengers in the Toyota Sequoia who had to be extricated.  One passenger died from his injuries. Three others are in critical condition.

All of the injured were taken to Memorial Hospital in South Bend.

The Berrien County Sheriff’s Department Accident Investigation Team was called to the scene and are assisting with the investigation.
