A 53-year-old Shelby Indiana man is hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after crashing his motorcycle.

The collision happened just after 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 25, in New Buffalo Township on I-94 eastbound at the Exit 4 off ramp to U.S. 12 toward Niles.

Witnesses told police the motorcyclist seemed to be going too fast to negotiate the sharp curve of the exit. He ran off the roadway, crashed into a ditch and was ejected from the bike.

The motorcycle operator was not wearing a helmet, according to the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department.

He was transported to Spectrum Lakeland of St Joseph.

The crash remains under investigation and it is not known at this time if drugs or alcohol are contributing factors, police stated.
