The US Coast Guard are investigating a boat that exploded on the St. Joseph River in Berrien County on Tuesday evening, July 2.

It happened shortly after 5:30 p.m. near Anchors Way Marina in St. Joseph, and four people people were on board the craft at the time.

Three of them jumped into the water to escape the explosion and swam to shore. The fourth, a woman, stayed on the boat and suffered burns. She was transported to a hospital in Kalamazoo and no details about her condition have been given.

The Coast Guard believe a clogged fuel line may have been the cause of the explosion.
