A 1-year-old child was hospitalized in critical condition after being pulled Lake of the Woods in Marshall County.

Officials with the Indiana DNR now say that child passed away Monday at St. Joseph Medical Center, where it was taken after it was found unresponsive.

It happened during a birthday party around 8:10 p.m. on Saturday, July 20, in the 4100 block of Lake Shore Drive near Bremen, according to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.

Relatives found a back door to the home had been opened and found the child floating in the water, the DNR stated.

The child had been missing for about 5 to 10 minutes, the DNR stated.
