DNR: Sudden fish deaths in Shipshewana “natural”

Officials say that a massive kill-off of fish in Shipshewana was the result of a natural phenomenon.

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources says this sort of mass event in Shipshewana Lake is typical during extreme heat.

They say the intense temperatures can cause an algae bloom to occur, which in turn depletes the oxygen level in the water, killing the fish.
