Water levels to go down on Lake Michigan, but remain higher than normal

Water levels in Lake Michigan are expected to drop slowly in August.

The shoreline has been swollen all summer, and ABC 57 Meteorologist Alex Countee says the difference has been noticeable at Silver Beach when compared to last year. Inland beach flooding has been measurable down the coast to New Buffalo, as well.

The lake has been at nearly 582 feet for much of July, after missing the all-time June record by a single inch. The lake is a little more than 4 inches away from setting the all-time record, but is now expected to fall very slowly for the rest of the summer.

Water levels should drop an inch in August, and another 2 and a half inches in September.
