The FBI conducted a raid of the South Bend Housing Authority offices.

The offices are located at 501 Alonzo Watson Drive in South Bend.

Employees left the building shortly after FBI agents went in. The workers left the premises shortly afterward.

The Department of Justice confirmed an investigation was underway, but would not release information on the nature of the investigation when asked by 95.3 MNC’s reporting partners at ABC 57.

ABC 57 contacted South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg’s office, which was also unaware of the investigation.

The City of South Bend released this statement late on Wednesday afternoon:

Earlier today the Mayor’s Office became aware through local media reports of today’s law enforcement action at the Housing Authority. While the Housing Authority is not part of the City administration, the Mayor is concerned and will be closely following the situation.

The Mayor is in touch with the Board of Commissioners and has asked that they keep him informed on what they learn from federal officials. In the meantime, he has offered the City’s assistance to help ensure residents are not negatively impacted by this situation. He has been advised that normal operations will continue.
