22-year-old hospitalized after police pursuit, crash in Benton Township

A 22-year-old Benton Harbor resident was taken to the hospital with serious injuries after allegedly leading Michigan State Police Troopers on a chase.

It began shortly 8:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 2, in Benton Harbor, when troopers say they saw a BMW without a license plate traveling at a high rate of speed.

The driver led police into Benton Township and lost control of the vehicle near Elmside Road and struck a utility pole.

The vehicle rolled and the driver was ejected.

The driver was taken to a hospital in Grand Rapids for treatment.
