Four people killed in crash in Buchanan Township identified

Four people have been killed and two others injured when a motorist ran a stop sign and smashed into another vehicle in Berrien County.

The collision happened just after 12 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 2, at N. Main and Miller Road in Buchanan Township.

A 2007 Ford Fusion was traveling at a high rate of speed on Miller Road when it is believed to have disregarded a stop sign striking a southbound 2000 Honda Accord, according to the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department.

The driver and passenger of the 2007 Ford Fusion were taken to South Bend Memorial Hospital for treatment.

There were four individuals in the 2000 Honda Accord. All four occupants were killed.

The individuals in the 2000 Honda Accord have been identified as:
Driver – Robert Klint (66) Sawyer.
Passenger – Kent Williamson (52) Virginia
Passenger – Melissa Klint (60) Sawyer
Passenger – Landyn Klint (22) Sawyer

The driver of the Ford Fusion was Dub Alan Collins, Male, 53, of Buchanan Township.

He is being held on a Michigan Department of Corrections parole
detainer and he is currently hospitalized in stable condition at Memorial Hospital
in South Bend for treatment of the injuries he sustained in the crash.

The police report and investigative findings are being forwarded to the Berrien
County Prosecutor’s Office so that a determination can be made on possible additional criminal charges being sought against Collins.

Alcohol and speed appear to be factors in the investigation.
