The Elkhart County Big Brothers-Big Sisters program has been given a grant to help local families struggling with the effects of opioid addiction.

Over the next three years the Elkhart County organization will receive between $50,000 and $60,000. That’s a share of $1.25 million that’s being distributed by the Indiana Youth Institute.

The money will be used to fund training that will provide support to families that are dealing with the impacts of opioids and addiction in the community.

The organization says they hope this will be a preventative measure for opioid addiction, as well. The training is expected to begin in early September.
